FINANCE THEORY & PRACTISE
Money, its use and abuse, affects the lives of the whole human race. It is beholden on us therefore to understand the complexities of finance, how it works and is applied and develop means of applying it efficiently and fairly.
A central pillar of our research is to develop an understanding of the Islamic financial approach to the generation of wealth and its application to sustaining, developing and improving the lot of mankind. Coupled indivisibly with finance is the legal infrastructure that directs and decides on the use of money and the relationship of finance with social structures and the people in them.
Known as the Qänün-e Islämì - or more broadly Sharia law - it is the moral code and religious law of a prophetic religion, but is usually associated with Islam, yet also is manifest in, for example, Catholicism as Canon Law.
Research will include areas concerning the underlying principles of Sharia, how it is applied and its effect and relevance in a rapidly changing world.
